Professional musician Jon Sadlier roadtests the new Dyson Zone headphones
“For serious music listeners and audiophiles they are undoubtedly best in class.”
These headphones make an incredible first impression – they have a super sleek and modern design that is both stylish and functional, just what you expect from Dyson. The ear cups are made of memory foam and provide a comfortable fit for extended listening sessions, something that will definitely be a great asset to me on long recording days. Although they are somewhat heavier than other earphones I have had in the past, the padded band means the weight is evenly distributed. The headphones feature a touch interface that allows you to control the volume, skip tracks, and answer calls without having to take your phone out of your pocket which is great when you’re on the move carrying a heavy guitar case.
I loved the companion app which allows you to customise the sound profile to your own individual preferences which is definitely something that comes in handy in our house! The noise-cancelling optimization tool is one of the best features the earphones have, in my opinion, it analyses the user’s environment and adjusts the headphones’ noise-cancelling settings accordingly – you can literally hear nothing at all when it is activated but can turn if off immediately at ease if needed.
The headphones have a battery life of up to 50 hours on a single charge, which is impressive and something that is great for someone like me who is constantly forgetting to re-charge. They come with a USB-C charging cable for flights and a carrying case for easy transport.
The headphones use Bluetooth 5.0 technology for a stable and reliable wireless connection to your phone or other devices and also feature a built-in microphone for taking calls and using voice assistants like Siri or Google Assistant.
I couldn’t write this review without mentioning the one of a kind air purification feature and visor that comes with these earphones. Although wearing the visor does feel very strange at first; it certainly caused some sideways glances when I was walking down the street, but the fresh air against your face when you’re in the city or indeed when travelling is well worth the funny looks.
Dyson’s new Zone headphones with air purification are an investment for sure – but for serious music listeners and audiophiles they are undoubtedly best in class.
