Outdoor lights to brighten up your al fresco dinners

Whether you’d love a lamp for your balcony or string lights to illuminate your pergola, we’ve found options to suit every space.

If there’s one thing Irish people love, it’s warm weather. Any hint of the sun’s golden rays will see us flocking outdoors and setting up camp for the day. And, so rare is the occasion that it’s warm enough to sit outside, it’s nice to continue to do so into the evening. Who doesn’t love an al fresco dinner?

No matter what your outdoor space looks like, whether it’s a large garden with a patio area or a city balcony, outdoor lights will help set the mood (and help you see once the sun disappears).

Here are some options that will help you make the most of any warm days that come our way.

Hanging

Green Moroccan solar lantern, €79, Urban Outfitters

String lights are popular for adding a celebratory mood to an outdoor setup, but they’re not the only option when it comes to hanging designs. Solar-powered lanterns can be hooked over the edge of a balcony, or hung overhead on a pergola to create a chilled-out vibe.

Table lamps

These handy lamps can be moved around as needed, whether it’s at the centre of your dining table, or just brought outside for an evening glass of wine. They’re also useful to have inside, too, for an extra source of light exactly where you need it.

Sometimes, the flicker of real candlelight is the only thing that will do, and it’s always beautiful to add another layer to electric lighting. There are so many styles to choose from, whether you like something rustic or sleek and minimalist.
