Ikea is launching a colourful collection to celebrate its 80th anniversary
The Swedish retailer is reimagining some of its most iconic designs over the years with a contemporary take – think playful prints and statement shades.
Celebrating 80 years of making furniture that’s beloved across the world, Ikea is launching a collection inspired by some of its iconic designs from the archives, reimagined for contemporary homes.
The Nytillverkad collection celebrates the company’s rich design history across furniture, accessories and textiles, and the first launch will be released in July.
“With Nytillverkad, we are returning to the future, again. In multiple launches over the next few years, we will release a series of carefully selected products from our design archive,” Fredrika Inger, managing director at Ikea of Sweden explains.
“Updated to match the bold outlook of the next generation. We are happy to bring back these timeless designs truly appreciated by the customers over the years.”
Some of the standout pieces from the collection include the Domsten stool, a stackable, space-saving design that has been updated in lilac and red colourways, inspired by the Jerry stool designed by Karin Mobring.
The Lövet side table, first introduced in 1956, has become Lövbacken, and now comes in orange, blue, and light green with an ash veneer top.
The Bondskäret coat stand is a new take on the Smed, originally developed by designer Rutger Andersson, while the Krypkornell pattern by Swedish textile designer Sven Fristedt makes a reappearance.
First introduced in 1980 as the Bladhult pattern on a cover for the Klippan sofa, the multicoloured print is now available on bedding, kitchen accessories, pre-cut fabric, and cushion covers.
