Here’s how to make your bedroom extra cosy and comfortable this season

Whether you’re prepping bedrooms for guests, or just creating a sanctuary in your own space, here’s how to make sure it’s as welcoming as possible.

Your bedroom should always be a place you look forward to retreating to, but especially so during the winter months. When it’s cold and dark outside, you want to be greeted with a cosy space that guides you towards a relaxing sleep.

Plus, it’s a time of year when we often have guests, so it’s always worth checking that where they’ll be sleeping has everything they’ll need.

Layering the bed

Getting the layers right on the bed not only ensure that whoever sleeps there is warm and cosy, but can also add a pleasing blend of colour and pattern to the room. At this time of year, it’s always a good idea to give people the option of an extra blanket or quilt, while a hot water bottle will be appreciated by those who really feel the cold.

Lighting

It’s important to have the lighting right to create a relaxing atmosphere in a bedroom. Don’t rely on overhead lighting, which can be harsh and too bright for unwinding at the end of the day (and even worse if you have to get up in the middle of the night). Instead, look to a combination of floor lamps, wall lights and table lamps to add light exactly where it’s needed.

Finishing touches

Think about the small things that will make your (or your guest’s) experience all the better. A carafe of water by the bed, a dish to store jewellery, or a candle to create a soothing scent can all add a pleasant touch to the space.
