Christmas come early – Adele just confirmed when her next single is out

Adele is releasing new music. I repeat, ADELE IS RELEASING NEW MUSIC!

Could Adele be leaving the no new music club? Fans suspected that a new album was imminent and the singer has just confirmed those suspicions – revealing what the name of her first single will be and when it will be released.

In very welcome news, it looks like the 15-time Grammy winner is finally ready to release her fourth studio album; the first new music she’s put out in six (long!) years. Many expected it to drop sometime this week – Friday had been thrown around a few times – but we’ll have to wait just a few days longer as her new song Easy On Me, will actually be out on Friday, October 15.

While the singer only just confirmed the news as of this afternoon, rumours that a new album was pending began circling long before that thanks to a now-deleted tweet from Canadian radio DJ Mauler who claimed that there would be “New Adele. This week.” That was in fact last week, and as we know, there were no further updates until today. That said, billboards of Adele’s rumoured album title – 30 – did start appearing in different cities around the world, all of them a sort of murky navy/teal colour with a golden 30 in the centre.

As loyal Adele fans will know, all of her previous albums have been named after whatever age she was at the time of recording, and though she hasn’t necessarily confirmed that it will be called 30, she did hint at its title back in 2019, joking with fans that the album “will be a drum and bass record to spite you all”. That may not be her usual genre, but the woman can do anything so we’re not concerned.

Updating her website and social media pages with the same murky teal background and golden font, fans were encouraged to sign up for a newsletter to keep up to date though Adele ultimately announced the exciting news over on her Instagram.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve all been hyped up to think that Adele would be releasing new music though and the Rolling in the Deep singer made headlines this time last year after guest presenting Saturday Night Live.

Offering some sort of explanation as to why she wasn’t performing on the show alongside her presenting duties, Adele said that there were a “couple of reasons” for this. “I know there’s been a lot of chatter about me just being the host,” she commented at the time. “Like why isn’t she the musical guest and stuff like that, and there’s a couple of reasons: My album’s not finished, and I’m also too scared to do both… I’d rather just put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six and see what happens.”

Later sharing a photo of herself mid-hosting duties on Instagram, she confirmed that she had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am! Peace out til next year,” she captioned the photo.

True to her word, confirmation of a new album comes almost 12 months to the day later. While very few people seem to know any more information than the few snippets we’ve seen doing the rounds online, Fraser T Smith, who co-wrote Adele’s global smash Set Fire To The Rain, did say this: “whatever it’s going to be, it will be of the highest standard”. Of that, we can be sure.
