Our pick of Irish-designed Father’s Day gifts for the best dad

For Father’s Day 2020, you might be on the hunt for gift ideas made and purchased locally as possible, but still want something thoughtful.

With Father’s Day is just around the corner (June 21), finding the perfect present might not always an easy task, but finding a beautiful Irish-made one is.

Why not get him a…

A lambswool bow tie

HATA-Tweet-Bow-Tie

Developed exclusively for the Irish Design Shop, Hata’s Donegal tweed bow ties are made with lambswool merino and are available in five colours; Tabby Blue, Tabby Grey, Herringbone Wine, Herringbone White, and Tabby Green. €75 for one.

A cheese board (personalised too)

If your dad’s a big cheese lover (which every single dad seems to be), then this carved cheese board by Irish-owned family business Slated is perfect for indulging. All of their slate pieces are cut by hand with a 150-year-old slaters knife in their Dublin studio, meaning each piece is completely unique.

A summer scarf

Stable_Irish-Linen-Rich-Turquoise-Blue-Double-Long

A beautiful addition to any wardrobe, Stable has a whole host of Irish linen scarves, but this turquoise blue one really sings of summer. €160

A print of home

The historic home of the GAA is depicted, alongside leafy Drumcondra, in Clover Rua’s celebration of Croke Park. €12 + shipping.

A cookbook

The Irish Cookbook is chef JP McMahon’s ode to Irish food. Looking back at Ireland’s rich history with food and the landscape it comes from, it is 480 pages of Irish made cuisine, from oysters and seaweed to lamb and beef recipes, plus plenty of ideas on foraging and dishes with a creative twist. €55

An Irish notebook

Made from at least 70% post-consumer waste, Badly Made Books notebooks really are rubbish. Available in black, lined, bullet points or a mix, the Dublin company have also been running a competition through Covid-19 asking Irish creatives to submit book cover images, with the winning cover to be posted onsite. From €15

Skincare

For any father figures who are in need of some pampering, head to Slane-based Handmade Soap Company for their basil, lime and sweet orange-scented men’s skincare collection. Your mum will thank you. Starting from €10

A feel-good card

Made from 100% recycled paper with a compostable sleeve made from corn starch, this Bold Bunny card looks good and has feel-good factor. €3.25.

If all else fails…?

Okay, it’s not the right season for wool socks, but these are pretty classic. Made using 100% pure new wool which comes from organically farmed sheep and is processed using eco-sensitive methods, these options from Kerry Woollen Mills even retain the distinctive fresh wool smell. Just €15.

Happy Father’s Day 2020!
