58th Annual GRAMMYs: Red Carpet Highs And Lows

See More Photos
Ah, The GRAMMYs. The one night of the year where celebrities leave their rational sartorial minds at home, in a desperate bid to outdo one another on the red carpet with the most extravagant ensemble. Some play it safe and pull off an ethereal, head-turning effect in the process (Ellie Goulding, just wow) while others are just short of turning up naked because there’s no such thing as too much skin at the GRAMMYs. Ciara opted for a paired back beauty look with sleek, unfussy hair, leaving the drama to her dress, or lack thereof. Then again, if we had a body like Ciara and the confidence to pull this off, clothes would always be optional. Then there are the Lady Gagas and the Z La Las, whose outfits are enough to give you nightmares for at least a week, though Gaga’s look and performance on the night was in tribute to the late David Bowie which helps to explain the shocking red locks.?Whether you opt for the bare minimum to cover your nether regions or you decide to wear four outfits in one, there really?is?no such thing as a dress code when it comes to this once yearly event that celebrates all achievements in the world of music.

As for our best-dressed celebrities of the night? We can’t not give 5 stars to Album of the Year winner Taylor Swift whose orange and pink two-piece outfit is the stuff of our Barbie doll dreams (though we imagine she was none too happy when another guest rocked up in the same colours. Florence Welch and Adele also chose not to succumb to the pressure of dressing like a circus performer, sticking to their signature looks of black head to toe (Adele) and something floaty and dreamlike (Flo). And as always, Chrissy Teigen channels her inner goddess.

And then there were those who we can’t help but look at and say ‘what were you thinking?’ Justin Bieber’s facial hair gives us major heebeegeebees while this guest looks like she’s taken time out from her off-Broadway performance in Oklahoma. Yellow rarely works, and certainly not when you try incorporating nausea-inducing frills into the whole affair. Never has an outfit reminded us so much of Big Bird, without it actually being a Big Bird costume. As much as our stomachs are turned by some choice ensembles, isn’t it wonderful that people have the opportunity to go crazy and express themselves however they damn well please?
