Winter warmers: 3 outdoor sauna experiences that you have to try this Christmas

Wintry weather getting you down? Embrace the great outdoors (while staying warm) with these warming outdoor saunas.

There’s nothing better than a spa day spent running back and forth between sauna and swimming pool. But would you be brave enough to bring them out into the elements and head to an outdoor sauna?

The art of outdoor spa experiences are picking up speed around Ireland, and none with more scenic views than along the Wild Atlantic Way. An innovative approach to saunas and steam rooms, mobile treatments are cropping up everywhere, and they’re the perfect way to brace the cold weather before Christmas and get yourself into the spirit.

Want in on the trend? Here’s where to go to embrace the wild weather.

Bosca Beatha

Travelling around Ireland for over 20 years, Bosca Beatha is the brainchild of Shirley Fitzpatrick and provides a warm respite from the elements in some of Ireland’s most beautiful locations. You can track where Shirley is headed on her social media (she’s in the Glenmalure Valley in Wicklow this weekend), and just show up on the day — a €12 slot will give you at least an hour, with plenty of friendly seating around the mobile sauna to cool off in.

Warming Wagon

Roaming around the Cork coastline, the Warming Wagon is the perfect excuse to head to the beach in the depths of winter. You can book ahead from just €20 and enjoy views of some of the most beautiful coastlines in Ireland. Similar to Bosca Beatha, you can track the Warming Wagon on its social media.

Seaview House Hotel

The only stationary sauna on our list (but no less fun for it), brings us to the Rebel County again to the Seaview House Hotel in Ballylickey in Bantry. The spa features three private seawater baths with state of the art Russian cedar steam barrels and private showers, and afterwards, you can head outside to their outdoor saunas and hot tubs. The perfect excuse for a pre-Christmas getaway
