Heads up, people. The hat is back for AW18. While many women are holding onto summer’s final sunny offerings, I’m screaming for crunchy leaves and a good beanie.
Very few things are as practical, or stylish, as a hat in autumn, so as temperatures quickly cool down, I’m not complaining. Given the climate in Ireland, a hat is an essential addition to your autumn wardrobe. But being sensible doesn't have to mean boring. Headgear not only brings warmth, but endless styling possibilities. It's an accessory never to be underestimated; a hat can dress up any outfit, easily dress it down, hide a bad hair day, or simply excuse wearing no makeup. Simply put, a hat can make an outfit look good with minimal effort.
For straight-up coolness, a cosy knitted beanie is a cold-weather classic. I’ll be honest, I was surprised to see berets again this year, but not disappointed. I draw the line at wide-brimmed straw hats in autumn though. I’m all for creativity, but it’s a no from me, Jacquemus. From 1970s corduroy, cowboy hats, wool fedoras and oversized bucket hats, street-style stars have experimented with a plethora of different styles. If you're feeling daring, try faux fur - it's guaranteed to keep your head warm. But as for the balaclava trend? Well, that's for another day. Check-out my edit below for hats that will keep you both warm and stylish all season long.
