Women in Film and Television Ireland (WFT.I) in collaboration with the U.S Embassy of Ireland, will hold their October event today, October 22nd, at The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield.?’Innovators’ is this month’s hot topic, with a particular emphasis on female creative, business, and technological innovations in an ever-changing media landscape. Madeline De Nono of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender, Irish Director Dearbhla Walsh and Jennie Stacey from Brown Bag will be in attendance and speaking which should make for a fascinating afternoon. ?The event will include presentations, panel discussions, and Q&As Refreshments will be provided. The Ink Factory, one of Dublin’s finest tattoo, coffee, and barber hangouts, will hold a special tattoo charity event today in aid of Pieta House for victims of suicide. From 11am – 8pm, tattoo artists will be inking the word ‘hope’ in exchange for a €50 donation – all of which will go towards this hugely important charity. Tattoos will be given on a first-come-first-served?basis and only one option will be available. This year, The Ink Factory team tragically lost one of their founding members Johnny Connolly to suicide.

Cork City Ballet‘s production of Giselle will take place in the Cork Opera House from November 10th to 12th. Giselle is the poignant and tragic love story about a peasant girl who dies and comes back from the dead to save her lover and is the most celebrated ballet of the romantic era which has remained firmly at the center of the classical repertory since its premiere in Paris in 1841. The special production will welcome?Ekaterina Bortyakova and Akzhol Mussakhanov;?both of whom are principal dancers with Moscow State Ballet. Tickets are priced from €25 and can be bought here.

This week IMMA has welcomed?an exhibition of 50 works by one of the greatest realist painters of the 20th-century, Lucian Freud (1922-2011). The IMMA Collection: Freud Project features a selection of 30 of the artist’s finest paintings?and 20 works on paper. The works, on loan to the IMMA Collection from Private Collections, are presented in a dedicated Freud Centre in IMMA’s Garden Galleries for five years, with all 50 works on display over the first 12 months.?During this unique five-year project IMMA will present a series of different and exclusive Lucian Freud related exhibitions, with a new programme of events and openings each year. In this first year, all 50 works are on display, while subsequent exhibitions will include works and new commissions by other contemporary artists in response to Freud, revealing exciting new perspectives on his work for artists and audiences today.
