With a gate lodge, Steward’s residence and 136 acres of land, this Georgian house has all the trappings of its era.

Situated in the Blackwater Valley of Co Waterford, Salterbridge House is an impressive property that originally dates from 1751. The main house has been expanded several times over the years, and is today a large and elegant home.

Arranged around a central courtyard, the ground floor has a number of reception rooms, including a drawing room, dining room and morning room, all with decorative cornicing, large fireplaces and tall windows that look out to the surrounding grounds.

While it could perhaps benefit from an aesthetic update, the kitchen enjoys high ceilings and is a bright room. A pantry and utility room provide additional storage, while the rear of the ground floor has a series of rooms including a wine cellar and workshop that could be adapted by the new owners for a number of uses.

Upstairs, there are eleven bedrooms, two of which have en-suites. Each one is simply decorated and would be easy to add your own touch to. With so much space, the house is perfect to welcome guests, while some of the bedrooms could be converted to office space, or even a playroom for children.

Beyond the house, this property comes with 136 acres, including six acres of gardens and 98 acres of agricultural land. The gardens have many ancient trees, some dating from the 19th century, and flower beds and shrubs have been carefully maintained, providing plenty of colour. There is also a two-acre walled garden.

A stable and farmyard sit to the back of the house, and a tennis court to the side. There is also a Steward’s Lodge on the property, which has five bedrooms, and the gate lodge at the entrance has been restored by the Irish Landmark Trust, and is currently under lease to it. There is the option to take back control of this lodge.

Salterbridge House is four kilometres from Cappoquin and just twenty minutes from Dungarvan. The surrounding area is known for its beautiful scenery, and the popular Waterford Greenway is also nearby. Click through our gallery above for the full tour of this home.
