The best foldable outdoor tables for small patios and balconies

Just because your outdoor space is small doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an al fresco dinner with these tables that easily fold away.

We may not be guaranteed warm summer weather in Ireland, but when it arrives, there’s few things more glorious. While a normal summer sees city dwellers with limited outdoor space flock to cafes and pubs with exterior seating, that’s less likely to be on the cards this year.

Instead, we’re going to make the most of the outdoor space we do have. If you have a tiny patio or small balcony, a foldable table is a great way to enjoy the sunshine without permanently taking up your whole space. Here are seven of the best that we’ve found.

best foldable outdoor tables

Made of hard wearing steel, this table will seat two people comfortably, and there are matching chairs available. It also easily folds flat for storage when it’s not in use.

While it’s shown in white here, this table is available in a wide range of colours, including yellow, red and green, so it’s also perfect if you want to add a touch of colour to your outdoor space. Fermob bistro garden table, €167, Amara.

This acacia table from Ikea is incredibly versatile as it has two folding drop-leaves, allowing you to vary its size. When both leaves are folded down it also takes up minimal space, and could be used as a side table.

The natural texture of the wood also adds a nice organic touch to any outdoor area. Äpplarö outdoor table, €80 (€64 for Ikea Family card members until July 31), Ikea.

If you’re just looking for a side table to hold a drink or some snacks, then this metal design is ideal.

The tray detaches and the legs fold flat so it’s unobtrusive when not in use, and it’s made from powder coated steel so will easily stand up to some summer showers. Metal outdoor table, €34, The Blue Door.

Easy to unfold when you need it, this handy table instantly provides a place for guests to sit, or somewhere to enjoy dinner on a warm evening.

It can also withstand temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, so it should cope with an Irish summer without any issues. Fold It table, €119, Woo .Design.

Another design with foldable leaves, this table made from power coated aluminium is incredibly lightweight, and even has a handle to make it easy to lift in and out.

Open just half as shown above for day-to-day use to save space, or open it out fully when the whole family is there. Skagerak Picnic table 105, €729, Finnish Design Shop.

Perfect for two, this foldable table is made from eucalyptus which will add a warmth to your outdoor space.

Perfect for compact spaces, there are also chairs available in the same material if you want a matching set. Ven Bistro table, €49.99, JYSK.

If space is really at a premium on your balcony, then this clever table will help to maximise it.

All you need to do is hang it over your railings, and the top folds down when it’s not needed. Tice wall hung dining table, €69, Made.
