Sweet dreams: 10 products that will give you a better night’s sleep

Finding it hard to sleep? These 10 products promise to help you fall asleep faster and better

It seems a lot of us have been struggling with sleep lately.

From strangely vivid dreams to lockdown exhaustion, our minds are on overdrive and our sleeping habits are out of sync.

However, it is the 21st century, meaning there is a machine or supplement that is here to help.

Here we list 10 products that are proven to help us drift away to the land of rest and provide us with better sleeping patterns in the long run.

Sleep spray

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, €23 at Boots

Everyone who is somebody on Instagram swears by this spray. The blend of lavender, vetivert and camomile calms both mind and body. Spray it a few times on your pillow before you hit the hay for a blissful slumber.

Mattress topper

High Living Microfibre mattress topper, approx €30 at Amazon

Hi, my name is Edaein O’ Connell and this Amazon mattress topper changed my life. My bed is now a cloud and I an angel lying gracefully on top of it. Not only has it made my bed more comfortable but my sleep is all the better for it.

White noise machine

Marpac Whish white noise sound machine, approx €44 at Amazon

A white noise machine is perfect for those who can’t sleep with the silence of the night or the environmental sounds around them. These little dingers can play rainfall, forest sounds and a range of other soothing sounds. Plus, they are great for babies too.

Blackout blinds

Blackout roller blind, €8.99-€44.99 at Harry Corry

Do you struggle to fall asleep with even the smallest flash of light entering your room? A blackout blind is one of the most inexpensive ways to help you nod off by basking the room in complete darkness.

Weighted blanket

Rest easy weighted blanket, €85 at Littlewoods

Weighted blankets offer the sensation of being hugged gently while you sleep, giving you a long, healthy and restful slumber.

Fitbit

Fitbit Versa 2, €199 at Currys

A Fitbit will not only track your fitness but your sleep too. Since buying my Fitbit two months ago, I have been in a competition to beat my sleep. The Fitbit taunts you by scoring your rest every night and telling you whether it was bad, fair or good. This incentive makes me nod off faster than anything ever before.

Meditation apps

Meditation apps such as Calm and Headspace are a great way to help with sleep with practices designed to help you nod off. Meditation can be tricky at first, but stick with the practice and you will soon see the results.

Essential oil diffuser

Wellbeing pod essential oil diffuser, €100 at Neom

At the touch of a button, an oil diffuser can help you sleep better, stress less and lift your mood. The device humidifies the air around you whilst transforming your home with a natural scent of your choice.

Air purifier

Dyson Pure Cool Me personal purifier, €350 at Dyson

Air purifiers clean the air around you, thus creating a ‘sleep breathing zone’ for a better and more refreshing rest.

Magnesium

Magnesium tablets, €14.75 at Holland & Barrett

Research has indicated that taking magnesium can improve sleep quality, especially in those with poor sleeping habits. Magnesium plays an important role in our nervous system and activates mechanisms in the body that will quiet and calm you. It also regulates the hormone melatonin which dictates the sleep and wake cycles.
