Stephanie Roche Misses Out on FIFA Award

When Republic of Ireland Stephanie Roche made history by making it to the final three in the FIFA Puskas Award shortlist, we rejoiced that one of our countless talented female athletes had finally been recognized.

Despite the fact that her incredible goal has been watched by more than three and a half million people, and she received one million votes, the Dubliner narrowly missed out on the accolade last night. Instead, Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez who attained around 42% of the votes was awarded the prize.

Also, a little off point, but we absolutely loved her Taylor Swift-esque dress and gorgeous hair. (Cristiano Renaldo seemed to appreciate it too in this now famous picture doing the rounds on social media.)

We can’t wait to see what other football accolades Stephanie achieves in 2015.

Is it too early to call her our favourite footballer?
