Movies, bops and plenty of food – Your August bank holiday guide

A dull and dreary weekend with a slight chance of a heatwave. Sounds about right for Ireland this time of year. The August bank holiday is the summer’s last hurrah before the autumn chill sets in, and this weekend in Dublin is making sure it goes off with a bang. Happy Bank Holiday from IMAGE!

All weekend: Be inspired at GAZE International LGBT Film Festival

GAZE is taking over Dublin this weekend, celebrating everything about LGBTQ+ storytelling and filmmaking. With full days of gorgeous films, plus plenty of in-between events, your weekend will be full from tonight onwards. Also, Saturday morning’s schedule includes Drag Queen storytime for kids – I don’t know about you, but I’ll be first in line.

All weekend: Party in Dun Laoghaire at Beatyard

80 acts and performers, 100 food vendors, 20 craft beers, games, discussions, flea markets, boat parties… and that’s just the start. Dun Laoghaire will be rocking all weekend long with Beatyard, with one-day and three-day tickets still available.

On Monday: Wind down with a drive-in screening of the Goonies at Leopardstown Race Course

We all know that the best cure for a banger of a Bank Holiday is a day spent watching old movies. Leopardstown Race Course is hosting a weekend of perfect movies all bank holiday long, with Monday wrapping up with the classic The Goonies. But if the Truffle Shuffle isn’t your bag, get down on Saturday or Sunday to catch Dirty Dancing or The Greatest Showman for a good old-fashion sing-along.
