Spoilers ahoy, obviously.

At the end of the last season of BBC’s thriller The Fall, it looked like sexy male deer Jamie Dornan was done for. Paul Spector, the suburban serial killer character he unnervingly portrayed, was caught up in a game of cat-and-mouse with Gillian Anderson’s sublime DCI Stella Gibson. Paul seemed on the outs. Which made sense because Dornan’s career underwent something of an explosion last year with his role in a certain erotic drama called Fifty Shades of Grey. It was a crazy year for the father-of-one and no one would have blamed Dornan if he decided to focus on movies over television. There was talk, and hope, of Anderson continuing the show solo but it seems that feminist dream remains that. The show’s creator has confirmed Jamie, who loves charity golf tournaments, IS returning to the show. Various sources reported on his involvement in season three last year, but we were a little bit skeptical of the whole ‘flashbacks instead of plot moving forward’ device. Looks like such fears can be filed away.

Allan Cubitt said of the third season, ” I’ve been on a very exciting journey over the last five years… and I’m thrilled to have recently started filming the third installment of their macabre, obsessive dance of death. Obviously I don’t want to give anything away about how the third series will end but I can say that I am looking forward to working with both Gillian and Jamie again in the near future!”

It’s going to be a busy year for the 33-year-old Dornan. A few months ago E! reported he and his wife Amelia Warner were expecting their second child. He also has two war movies out later this year, to say nothing of Fifty Shades Darker prep.

Any hints on what to expect plotwise? The BBC’s statement on the reunification of Stella and Paul was suitably shady, ?As The Fall reaches its inexorable conclusion, it’s clear that the rules of this deadly game of cat and mouse are set to shift once again.?

Another cool tidbit? Irish actress and comedian Aisling Bea is joining the cast. Read our interview with Aisling here.

The Fall returns this Autumn. Will you be tuning in?
