The John Lewis Christmas ad just dropped and it’s as good as we’d hoped

The John Lewis Christmas ad just dropped and it’s as good as we’d hoped

Some people say the John Lewis Christmas advert marks the beginning of the festive season – and we think they’re right

After huge anticipation, John Lewis has finally dropped its Christmas advert for 2019.

The UK retailer made the announcement on Twitter at 7 am on Thursday morning, saying, “It’s a pleasure to introduce our loveable friend Excitable Edgar”.

The advert, which lasts for two minutes and 30 seconds, shows a little girl who never gives up on her friend, Edgar the flame-breathing dragon.

The response to this year’s offering is already overwhelmingly positive. Twitter users are commenting on the power of storytelling, with others saying Edgar has melted their hearts (no pun intended).

The song played during the ad is called Can’t Fight This Feeling, which was originally released by REO Speedwagon in 1984, but is now performed by Dan Smith of Bastille. This will come as a shock to some people who were convinced Lewis Capaldi would sing the track.
