Celebrities can get an awful lot of flak for well, anything these days but they can be a generous bunch too. Case in point, the wonderful Jennifer Lawrence. When she’s not highlighting the many problems with the gender wage gap, speaking bravely about her struggles with anxiety and just generally being brilliant, she’s donating a massive amount to a children’s hospital.
The Academy Award winner just announced that she’s donating an incredible $2 million to go towards the creation of a new wing at the Kosair Children’s Hospital in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. I think we can safely say her good deed for the weekend has been done.
Lawrence released a video on the hospital’s YouTube page explaining her heartwarming gesture: “I’m excited to announce we will be establishing the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital,” she said. “As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children.”
According to the hospital’s press release, the new wing will “feature private rooms dedicated to children recovering from heart procedures, open heart surgery including heart transplant, heart failure and other conditions requiring intensive care.”
As a result of her donation, it is expected to nearly complete $25 million in fundraising toward a new cardiac intensive care unit and renovation of an existing children’s only critical care center,” the Courier-Journal reported.
The Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit will also offer 14 beds for families to stay with their children while they are receiving treatment. This particular hospital means a great deal to the Joy star; she has visited the hospital countless times over the years to spend time?the patients, their families and its staff.
Lawrence is challenging the community to continue to donate and match her figure in order to further aid the lives of the inspiring children who attend the hospital.
As if we needed another reason to love her.
