Ever wondered how your pay cheque fared in comparison to that of professional wife and princess Kate Middleton? Clarence House has decided to illuminate us non-royals as to how the other half lives with the release of their annual review of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s expenditures.
It turns out that despite their jobs in the military, Prince William and Prince Harry still receive an allowance from their father, and that Kate Middleton is also a recipient. However, this isn’t pocket money for trips to Starbucks and taxis home from nights out. Rather, €2.965 million is allocated to funding the ?official activities? of Kate, William and Harry. Throughout the year, the younger generation of Royals travel the UK and on occasion the world, acting as ambassadors and promoting good causes on behalf of the palace. The majority of the nearly €3 million comes from the earnings on Charles’ estate – it earns €19.845 million annually according to E!. Then half a million comes from the government and taxpayers.
It’s pretty exhausting work, being polite and kempt all the time, so we don’t begrudge Kate a wage. After all, she has to deal with a lot of media intrusion because she married the’manor her dreams. It’s not her fault he’s a prince, and we’re living in the era of the 24-hour news cycle. However, we bet Clarence House loves Kate for her middle-class budgeting ways. The mother-of-two is famous for recycling her outfits and tends to shop from the best of the High Street. There’s also her influence on the British fashion industry to consider. When she wears an item, it has a tendency to sell out. The shirt she wore earlier this month has a waiting list, and she put maternity brand Madderson London on the map when she wore their shift dress at an educational event a few months ago. So when Kate spends money she’s helping the economy, really.
