UPDATE 8/2/2016:?Forget Bey, something else happened at the Super Bowl that has the potential to affect womankind. Award-winning drama series The Good Wife announced it was wrapping up during one of the commercial breaks. This current season, the show’s seventh, shall be its final. As we reported below, there was a lot of speculation that this was coming sooner rather than later, especially after the husband-and-team behind the show, Michelle and Robert King, announced they were leaving the legal drama. Some industry insiders felt that CBS, who produce the series, would keep on chronicling the life of Alicia Florrick, but this is the end. We wonder what lead actress Julianna Margulies will get up to next – does Shonda Rhimes need a leading lady?
23/1/2016: As self-confessed The Good Wife obsessives, this news has the potential to devastate us. Multiple outlets are reporting this morning that the critically acclaimed series is soon to be no more.?Julianna Margulies, who stars in the CBS drama, spoke at an event this week?and implied that this may be her final season on’the show, according to Vulture.
In a speech honouring the Kings at the Casting Society of America’s third annual Artios Awards, she announced she was taking advantage of the assembled audience of casting directors. ?I surprised [show creators] Robert and Michelle tonight,? she said. ?They didn’t know I was going to be here. They think I’m here for them, but I’m unemployed come April, and I think you haven’t seen me in a while, at least not in person, so I thought I should show up.?

Could it be that?her Good Wife commitment is over? The actress is known for joking around, but such a thing should never be spoken of lightly. And as much as we don’t want it to be so, her comments are not entirely unfounded. Earlier this month,’showrunners, Robert and Michelle King, announced that they would be’stepping down at the end of the show’s current season. This left the?programme’surrounded by uncertainty as, according to Deadline,?the contracts of most of its original cast members, including Margulies, are now up. At the time, ?CBS bosses said the were “confident” the show would continue past its seventh series, but this news disputes that.?
Series bosses have also said the things could come to a fitting conclusion at the end of season 7.
Perhaps after so many years playing such an emotional role – Margulies has been the star since 2009 – she just?needs to call it a day and move forward. She has previously said that her?character is extremely tough?to play. So much so, that she needs physical separation from her during filming.
?I’m constantly reminded of how sad Alicia is. The only way I can separate myself from her is if I leave her at the door. That’s why I insist on having wigs every season. I need to be able to physically take her off.?
We await confirmation with baited breath.
Is it too much to hope that the show pulls a Law & Order and stays on our screens for another decade?
And all this just after the good news about the Cold Feet‘revival.
