Dolce & Gabbana pasta for €88: a great idea or notions?

Dolce & Gabbana pasta for €88: a great idea or notions?

If your lunchbox is in need of a fashionable update then you’re in luck. Italian label Dolce & Gabanna’s colourful limited-edition pasta has just hit the shelves in select D&G stores and online.

The house collaborated with expert Italian pasta makers Pasta Di Martino to create a special edition pasta in a range of colours, symbols and monuments identifiable to traditional Italy. The product remains strictly the produce of Pasta Di Martino: bags of spaghetti, paccheri, and penne mezzani rigate, all adorned with whimsical designs of famous Italian landmarks like the Milan Duomo, a Venice canal, the Colosseum, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The packaging and design was forefronted by D&G, and feature an Italian woman in traditional garb (D&G, no less); an image synonymous with the iconic Italian brand.

The pasta comes packaged in a delightful vintage-inspired tin and you even get a free Dolce & Gabbana apron (although it’s not really free if it costs €88, is it?).  This isn’t the only time that the house has been drawn towards the culinary arts. Both catwalks during the ss17 and ss18 shows featured Andy Warhol-inspired tins of D&G-branded soup, and remember the pizza dresses in 2017? Traditional pasta makers Di Martino seemed like a natural (and delicious) fit.

If you want to get in on the action you have to be quick, though. There are only 5,000 tins available worldwide. Each tin costs around €88 which is pretty pricey, but also the perfect gift for the fancy-food lover in your life. Next time someone throws shade at you for smelling the kitchen out with tuna pasta, hold your head high and tell Sandra to take her €0.26c Lidl apple elsewhere.
