With over 1,400 venues and over 3,000 free events nationwide, it’s safe to say there is a lot going on for Culture Night. Here’s our pick of the programme…?
CORK
Time: 4-6pm
Where:?James Barry Exhibition Centre,D-Block, CIT Bishopstown Campus, Rossa Avenue.
Aaron Bevan invites you to actively colour in between the lines in his wallpaper installation. Elsewhere, Tomas Penc’s sculptures will surprise you and don’t forget to check out TweetBox, a project that involved over 200 artists and features new print work on lasercut birdboxes.
DERRY-LONDONDERRY
Time: 4-8pm
Where: Little Acorns Bookstore, The Yellow Yard
Do you judge a book by its cover? Well now is your chance to revamp any book cover you would love to change. Spend an evening designing and decorating with materials supplied and your finished cover will even be featured in a display that will hangs from the ceiling of Little Acorns Bookstore.
DUBLIN
Time: 5-9pm
Where: 1 Little Green Street, Dublin 7
Learn to shape and mould clay in the bustling markets area of Dublin. Arran Street East studio is holding a presentation of throwing, hand-building, using simple tools and working on a potter’s wheel. If you are a fan of simplicity and function this event will help you to understand the skill behind the crafts. There will also be tea and coffee served in their first range ‘The Pots’, which were designed and handmade in in the studio.
GALWAY
Time: 6-9pm
Where:?Coffeewerk + Press 4, Quay Street Galway
Combine your passion of design and coffee and enjoy an evening of inspiring talks by three designers. The talks are hosted by Above the Fold and Coffeewerk + Press will be providing the venue, along with ?cupping demonstration and treats.?The talks will focus on design practice in Ireland.
KILKENNY
Time: 5-9pm
Where: Blackstack Print Studio, 42 Parliament Street, Kilkenny
Blackstack Studio is offering a very hands-on experience on Friday night. Visitors will use the fast technique of screen printing and make their own posters and cards. There will be a demonstration on the night of intaglio printing and the prints made will be available to take home.
LIMERICK
Time: 6-9pm
Where: Fab Lab Limerick, No. 7 Rutland Street & The Hunt Museum, Rutland Street
For tutorials on 3D printing, laser cutting and more, this collaboration between?Fab Lab Limerick and the Hunt Museum?is unmissable. Participants will collect specially-designed and digitally-fabricated pieces, follow a guided path and then construct an on-site sculpture.
WATERFORD
Time: 6-11pm
Where: Soma Contemporary Gallery 6, Lombard Street.
Throwaway Remnants is a workshop for all ages. Hosted by artist Fiona Kelly, participants will learn new ways of drawing, alongside music and refreshments and Fiona Kelly’s solo exhibition Dust Breeding.
