Is Mad Max Fury Road the best film of 2015? Admittedly, when we first saw the trailer for this film, we wanted to run and hide. It looks insane. Batsh*t crazy insane. Now, with five-star reviews for the George Miller directed fantasy-come-action-come-thriller flick popping up left right and centre, we’ll be lining up to see it. World renowned critics are touting it as the best movie of the last 12 months and a worthy, impressive rebooting of the original. Of course, when you have the likes of Charlize Theron – check out our interview with her here -?Tom Hardy and young Nicholas Hoult in your key roles, what you’ll come away with is pure magic.

The Irish Times describe it as a post-apocalyptic western of the highest order while The Wall Street Journal say it’s ‘ravishing and joyously crazed.’ The New York Times assure us that it is great fun and will give you ‘enormous pleasure’ as the action unfolds. For those looking for something to compare it to, The Guardian say “it’s like Grand Theft Auto revamped by Hieronymus Bosch, with a dab of Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn on the side.”

Last night, the stars of the movie along with a whole host of other familiar faces took to the red carpet at Cannes to celebrate one of the most exciting cinema releases of the last 12 months. With such consistently positive reviews surrounding this flick, what we’re left wondering is if it’s the kind of movie that might pique the interest of the Academy, come Oscar season next year. Is it time for the Oscars to get down and dirty? We think so.

Seeing Charlize Theron kick ass in Mad Max Fury Road, it’s hard to remember how polished she looks on the red carpet. Here she dons an eye-catching yellow Dior dress, flanked by her beau, Sean Penn.

Also in attendance is Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts, Michelle Rodriguez and more. Check out the gallery of premiere pics above and whatever you do, get to the nearest cinema for the most extravagant, cinematic feast you’ll enjoy all year.
