Broga, Not For Girls?

Broga, Not For Girls?

Think again…

When it comes to exercise options, there seems to be quite a lot that’s geared more so towards women (such as zumba) and others towards men (such as MMA), but that’s not to say such forms of exercise are exclusive entirely to a certain sex. In an attempt to show men that yoga isn’t all breathing and holding funny looking poses, men now have the option (at least in London or LA, where all exercising buzzes begin) of partaking in a spot of ‘yoga for bros’ or Broga. We agree, it does sound ridiculous at first, doesn’t it?

‘Geared for men, but open to all’, Broga, as per its founder Matt Miller, however, seeks not to exclude women but to show that yoga isn’t just for girls, in case anybody thought that it was.

As per The Telegraph, who interviewed Miller on the founding of Broga, he says:??Broga looks at yoga from a male sensibility… Men like knowing what trajectory they are on when they set foot in the gym or on a football pitch. So Broga sets you up for what you’re doing and what you’re going to get out of it.?

?As an athlete, I knew I needed to be doing more yoga, but I found it either too dance-y or too flow-y.”

Other male bloggers such as Living Life with Substance, Broga is your ‘ticket to enlightemnet’ if you’ve felt imasculated by the idea of yoga and ‘a room full of women in tights.’

According to various reports, Broga is said to take everything you do in ordinary yoga and make it a whole lot harder, while the focus is still on the ability to hold certain positions, develop your strength and centre the mind.

“Strong, energetic and challenging, Broga combines the best?core-strengthening, muscle-toning, cardio-working, stress-reducing, clarity-enhancing yoga postures with functional fitness exercises for an amazing workout.?You’ll get that pumped-up feeling you get from working out and a deep flexibility and relaxation feeling from ?working in.?

While women are certainly welcome, the aim of Broga is to give men an ideal outlet for stress management. Their mission, as per Broga.com, is to?is “to offer men real tools for coping with daily stresses and demands through an accessible yoga-based fitness program taught from a man’s point of view.”

Man or woman, would you give Broga a go? Would you like to see it arrive on Irish shores? Do you find regular yoga a bit too flowy and dancey and yearn for something a bit more heavy duty? Who ever said yoga in its most basic form was too easy going on the body mustn’t have been doing it right; sure, it might look like you’re doing nothing, but man, is it hard.
