Another day, another celebrity feud. Remember when Kanye West properly humiliated Taylor Swift in front of millions at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards? That was the moment that started it all. When Swift was awarded the moon man for Best Female Video for You Belong with Me in 2009, West went on stage to interrupt the star’s acceptance speech, and instead, sing praises for Beyonc?’s Single Ladies. Swift looked sad, and Beyonc? was mortified. Was Single Ladies the better video? Yes. However, that is beside the point. Swift won fair and square, and West chose to make the moment all about him. Not cool.
She wrote endless songs about it, and he didn’t apologise until last year, after which a shaky truce was called. It appears this is no more. West debuted a new track Famous at his much-talked about 2016 Yeezy show, and there’s no way you could have missed the none-too-subtle dig at Swift. The lyrics are quite degrading with West implying that it is he who aided Swift’s rise to superstardom.
“For all my Southside n—-s who will know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that b**ch famous / God damn / I made that b**ch famous.”
Yes, because that one incident really helped Swift sell millions of records. As if. Are you forgetting her talent, drive and determination??
I’m so sad right now & disappointed right now. I stand by my sister. Always.

My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty.

Following backlash from Swift’s brother (he uploaded a video in which he is seen dumping West’s merchandise straight in the trash) and her girl squad (see above?Tweets) the rapper took to Twitter, claiming that he had gotten permission from Swift to name-drop her following an hour-long phone conversation with the star.
I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her?

3rd thing I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings

However, Swift’s team told a different version of events.”Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” her rep told TMZ adding, “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that b**ch famous.'”
Is the whole thing getting out of hand at this stage? Probably. However, it doesn’t excuse West’s egotistical behaviour. No one knows how to drum up publicity like the rapper, but he well knew what he was doing using Swift as a reference, and his actions and rants are getting beyond tiresome.
?Will we get Bad Blood Part II from Swift now? We can’t see the singer letting him away with this lightly.
