Amal Clooney is London’s Most Influential Woman

amal and george

Amal Clooney ne? Alamuddin was named the most influential women in London last week after coming in fourth place on the Evening Standard’s 1000 Most Influential Londoners list. As you do.

There were only three other women in the top ten, with the United Kingdom’s Home Secretaty Theresa May sixth and Victoria Beckham ninth. Perhaps Beckham’s recent decision to?open her first store on Dover Street swayed the list compilers.

First place went to Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne with Mayor of London landing the second spot. Amal beat the Bank of England Governor (5) and Prince Harry (7). Other notable celebrity entries include Kate Bush (16), Benedict Cumberbatch (20) and Malala Yousafzai, recent Nobel Peace Prize winner, in twelfth place.

Why was Amal picked as top of the crop? She became one of the most high-profile women in the world last month when she married the actor and director George Clooney in Venice. Combine this with the fact she’sone of the most famous barristers in the industry and you’ve got a killer combination of fame and maddening talent. After a Seychelles honeymoon Amal returned to work to advise the Greek government about repatriating archaeological treasures from the UK. However, such a noble cause didn’t exactly set the papers alight as Amal’s name change provided endless discussion fodder instead. Amal Clooney announced herself to the world on her workplace’s website,?Doughty Street Chambers.?The Guardian reports the website initially crashed, also that her name change was originally Amal Alamuddin Clooney but it now seems that the international human rights lawyer wants us all to embrace Amal Clooney.

What do you think of Amal’s name change? Too traditional or totally her own business?
