2014 has not been a kind year to love. First, March saw the now infamous ?conscious uncoupling? of Coldplay’s Christ Martin and his irritatingly squeaky clean now ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
Then in May, came the bizarre ten-minute phone call Rory McIlroy made to cut off his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki. Sure the wedding invites had only already been sent out, Rory.
Here are the break ups from 2014 that sort of broke our hearts, too.

After meeting on the set of Slumdog Millionaire, the two called their six year relationship quits earlier this month. Pinto had in happier times, described Dev as her soul-mate.

After ten years of marriage and while on holiday with their kids in the Bahamas, Gwyneth announced their ?concious uncoupling? in true Gwyneth style, via her lifestyle website Goop.
Kate Hudson and Matt Belamy

Considering how flirtatious the Blurred Lines star was with various younger female celebs (would be really expect anything else to be fair?), it was not the break up but its aftermath that puzzled us.
In July, Thicke released one of the most cringe-worthy song and music video ensembles ever, attempting to win back his estranged wife.
Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki
After three years with the tennis genius, Caroline’s beau Rory called off their engagement (and consequently their November wedding) via a ten minute phone call, defining the split as ?amicable?.
Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult
Following a brief split in January, the most happy-in-her-own-skin actress in Hollywood split with the Skins star in August after three years together. Then followed a very strange ten-minute relationship with Chris Martin, which ended in October.
Katy Perry and John Mayer
As one of our least favourite celebrity couplings of all time, we weren’t all that surprised the two split in February after two years on and off, and one awful song released together.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
We all wanted to believe that Mariah Carey had found love, and that there must truly be someone out there for everyone. However, Cannon revealed in August that after six years the two were having marriage difficulties and had started living in different houses.
Rita Ora and Calvin Harris

After the bones of a year dating, this musical duo split only for things to get well? a bit messy. As Calvin had the rights to Ora’s song rather unfortunately entitled I Willl Never Let You Down, he had the right to stop her from performing it, and supposedly flexed this power for the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards.
Though he did get his own back on Twitter? Eep.
Melanie Griffiths and Antonio Banderas
The acting pair filed for divorce after a staggering eighteen years of marriage, saying that their divorce was ?a long time coming?.
