89-Year-Old Grandmother Is Bridesmaid At Wedding

89-Year-Old Grandmother Is Bridesmaid At Wedding

This lovely story really cheered us up today. When planning your big day, who says you have to opt for the traditional route? One bride decided to shake things up at her wedding, by very cutely asking her 89-year-old grandmother to be her bridesmaid at her wedding. We just think that it’s such a lovely gesture, and this most certainly proves that you’re never too old to be a bridesmaid.

At her wedding recently, Christine Quinn from the United States decided she wanted her grandmother Betty Govern – Nana Betty – as her bridesmaid and that’s exactly what happened. At Christine’s wedding to Patrick Quinn (coincidentally the couple shares the same surname!) in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, Nana Betty stood by her granddaughter’s side in a dusty purple dress with a bouquet in hand, and if the pictures are anything to go by, had the time of her life on the day.

?You’re only as old as you feel and I feel young today,” Nana Betty told The Huffington Post.

Christine said that the decision to ask her grandma to be in the bridal party was a no-brainer; She considers Nana Betty one of her best friends. Excuse us while we go and sob in the corner.

“While she doesn’t live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible,” she said. “She just has an amazing sense of humour and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her.”

Just a few months before the wedding, Christine asked her nana Betty to be a bridesmaid “so she didn’t have too much time to think about it.”

“She asked me about 10 times, ‘Are you sure?’ and ‘Why would you want an old lady in your bridal party?'” Christine continued. “A few times she even said ‘All of your bridesmaids are young and pretty, why would you want me?’ Obviously Nana is beautiful too. Just look at those photos!” We have to agree.

This touching story has gone viral around the world for all the right reasons.

Happy Saturday everyone.
