3 Things Worth Watching This Weekend

3 Things Worth Watching This Weekend

Jessica Chastain stars in Molly’s Game, rejoice ALL of Friends is on Netflix, and it’s award season time, who will rock the Golden Globes red carpet?

ON THE BIG SCREEN: Molly’s Game

Jessica Chastain shines in any and every role she’s in and given that she’s the lead in the excellent Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut Molly’s Game, audiences should expect nothing less in this one. It presents an evocative and fascinating look at the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game involving Hollywood royalty, sports stars and more for a decade before being arrested.

Molly’s Game is in cinemas now

ON NETFLIX: Friends

Apart from the early two seasons, Friends is a cult series that has aged remarkably well. The jokes are still funny, the arguments and issues still relevant. Yes, it’s missing a massive amount of diversity which is a very obvious mishap when you watch it again in 2018 and any real talk of online dating stops it from being of the now (well, and some of the clothes and haircuts) but when you realise how long ago it was made, it’s striking that it retains so much of its warmth and charm. Cooler – but not quirkier – than Will & Grace, I could recite the lines and watching it all again, from the epic Thanksgiving Football Game to Ross’ tan and leather pants disasters, is a reminder that they really don’t make ’em like they used to. Oh, and of course they were NOT ON A BREAK.

Friends is available to stream in full on Netflix now

ON TV: Red carpet coverage of the 75th annual Golden Globes

Forget about the fact that the Golden Globes almost never predicts correctly who will win an Oscar; it’s one of the most glamorous award ceremonies of the season. But what does a post-Harvey Weinstein red carpet and indeed, the award show itself, look like? From the man who went from being thanked the most after God in acceptance speeches to rightfully one of the most hated men in the world, the red carpet – with many of its female nominees donning black gowns in solidarity with victims and to protest sexual abuse and harassment – will be a very different one this year. Many of the frontrunning films are about women and people of colour as opposed to the standard straight, white men. This year’s Globes will be significantly more diverse, and centre around more women than ever before and we say it’s about time.

The E! Red Carpet coverage of the Golden Globes airs on E! News on Sunday, January 7th from 11pm
