3 cute cottages in Co Mayo on the market for under €100,000

3 cute cottages in Co Mayo on the market for under €100,000

If you’re on the lookout for a country cottage on a budget, then here are three that could be perfect.

Whether it’s the threat of another lockdown that’s making you wistful for country life, or you’ve always had a dream to move out west, there’s no doubt Mayo would be a great choice, with plenty of unspoilt beaches and stunning natural scenery.

Your money can also go much further than in more urban areas, as these three cottages for under €100,000 prove.

Carheens, Cross, €99,000

Although it looks a little scruffy around the edges, any issues with this home are merely superficial, and a lick of paint would make a huge difference. Originally built over 150 years ago, it has been updated over the years, but a new owner would have plenty of scope to make it their own.

With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large kitchen and living area, this house is also more spacious than you would perhaps expect. It sits on a half acre site with views over the surrounding countryside.

Just half an hour from Galway city, 15 minutes from Headford town and just short drive from the village of Cross, it is within easy access of a whole range of amenities.

Roose, Hollymount, €65,000

Another one that’s surprisingly large inside, this property has four bedrooms, as well as a good-sized living space. Inside, the house needs some modernisation – the kitchen in particular would need some work before moving in, but it has plenty of potential.

There are several outbuildings on the 1.15 acres of land, which could serve a number of uses. Just 15 minutes from Ballinrobe, and 50 minutes to Galway city, it’s a rural location, but urban conveniences aren’t far away.

Derreenascooba, Killawalla, Westport, €70,000

These two beautiful stone cottages have been partly renovated, and with further work would make a really special home. Each cottage has two bedrooms, and with original doors, stone floors, vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, they are full of traditional charm.

Located close to Lough Mask, known for its excellent fishing, and just 20 minutes from Westport, these cottages would be ideal for someone who loves the water.
