Octavia Copper Table Lamp from House Edit

Leading up to house 2018, we’re beginning to get excited about all the gorgeous interior displays and inspiration that will be on offer. Last year, crowds were loving flamingos, tropical vibes, jungle prints and all things metallic, but what’s happening this year and beyond when it comes to interiors? We’ve asked some house trend leaders for their predictions.

Earth inspired

According to Claire Price and Elaine Regan from House Edit there’s a big focus on natural tones, sustainable design and detailed pattern in 2018. Muted greens, rose hues and earthy tones will follow through to 2019 with a strong focus on a handcrafted feel for furniture and homewares. Sustainability is also set to be top of the agenda, with people becoming more conscious of where and how their furniture is made. “It’s important to think about the bigger picture when working trends into your home. We will be showing how to be selective with the trends you incorporate into your own design schemes.” says Elaine.

Playful palettes

Nicola Pollard of Pollard Design explains: “I’ve seen an explosion of colour. Pink is still very prominent but coming up on its heels are baby blues, corals and beautiful ocean greens.” For Nicola, some top trends to keep an eye on are patterned marbles and Bauhaus-style geometry in fabrics, wallpaper and furniture. She also lists veneered furniture, textured fleck in mustard, orange, green and brown, bold rugs mixed with occasional chairs with long fringing, show stopping chandeliers and mood lighting as styles to look out for.

Luxurious fabrics

So, what’s on trend in soft furnishings? According to Julianne Kelly of Kevin Kelly Interiors, luxe is still big news – jewel shades are moving into richer and more sophisticated palette tones. Mixing with brass and gold gives them a touch of Art Deco style too. As well as this, there’s no stopping greenery, from plants to wallpaper, and deep forest green will be key. Julianne points out that pinks and reds have been evolving for a few years now, becoming increasingly sophisticated: grey-based, soft and deep. A favourite of hers at the moment is light terracotta.

Tasteful tech

Smart homes are no longer a thing of the future, and technology is now being interwoven into interiors trends. Trend Talks stage sponsor Bang & Olufsen recognises this, giving the best of every world: design, technology and performance. It combines stylish high-end performance items with cutting-edge technology that fits the functional and design needs of your home. According to Anders Buchmann of Bang & Olufsen: “It’s not about a big black speaker in the corner anymore, the style conscious want their sound technology to be a piece of art in itself. It should stand out for all the right reasons: a stunning talking point that delivers also on performance.”

So, there’ll be no excuses not to have your home bang on trend with all the tips and latest design happenings with the house 2018 trend leaders including Claire, Elaine, Julianne, Nicola, Anders and others including Emily Maher of Lost Weekend.

Lost Weekend is offering one lucky image.ie reader a stunning Mantis table lamp from DCW éditions, worth €590.

First created in 1951, the Mantis lamp is a combination of flexibility and balance – it captures the feeling of movement. Bernard Schottlander, the designer, devised it as a clever system of counterweights combined with a series of strong and flexible metal bars, and a beautifully sculptural lamp shade. The lamp may be rotated by 360 degrees around the base, with four arm positions to allow for adjustments in elevation.
