Top Tips & Products for Curly Hair

Top Tips & Products for Curly Hair

Curly haired women live in an?eternal conundrum of “My hair looks awful?but do I have enough time to wash it and let it dry completely?before I need to leave the house?”. God forbid you leave the house when it’s only 90% dry – it’ll be frizz and fly-aways?galore. And if you’re going out that evening don’t even?think of having a little mid-day nap, any pressure will turn those heavenly curls from ‘angelic’ to ‘vermin tails’ in under twenty minutes.

But the truth is we love our waves, because when you get them right, they are so dreamy, it’s just that there never seems to be a standard process?for great curly hair, it either happens, or it doesn’t. Here are some tips and products that are proven to help you have a good hair day a little more often.

Invest in a Wide Tooth Comb and an old T-Shirt

This is the best thing you could ever do for your hair. Before getting into the nitty gritty of product suggestions, purchasing a wide tooth comb and using a t-shirt rather than a towel to wrap your hair up will be the best thing you ever do. When you put your conditioner in, use your wide tooth comb to?brush it through and then rinse. Wrap up in a t-shirt and gently’squeeze it (no rubbing). You don’t need to brush it again, the wide tooth comb is kind on your hair and a soft t-shirt means that there’s less friction that creates frizz. I promise you, this?will make a bigger change to your hair than any product could.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil makes for an amazing hair mask and really helps calm your strands. Rub it into the tips of your hair before a shower and it’ll keep those fly-aways in check.?When you have a bit more time on your hands, these homemade hair masques are the business.

Boots Essential Curl Creme

This one stays between you and me okay? When my favourite Tr’s Semm? curl cream was discontinued, I cornered one of the Boots girls who always had amazingly neat curls every time I saw her and demanded to know her secrets. Her answer? The Boots Essential Curl Creme. To say I was skeptical is an understatement, it looks like candy floss in a tub and you could picture it in a salon where old women come out with lilac?hair. But the stuff is amazing and it really works. Rub it between?your hands and it becomes a cream that you can evenly distribute through your hair. Did I mention that it’s only €2.49 and lasts for aaaages?

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil is a really hard working product. Not only can you put it into damp hair to give it extra shine, it’s also a great finisher, setting your hair with shine and keeping it co-operative. This is an absolute-must for the handbag of any curly haired woman.

John Freida Frizz Ease Curl Reviver?Mousse

When you have curly hair, the use of mousse can be seriously hit and miss. Yes, it adds volume and definition but you thread a fine line between lovely loose waves and 1980s Kylie Minogue. Lightweight mousses are the safest bet and this John Freida one has great hold and can be toned down using your fingers to drag it out. No brushing necessary to remove this’mousse.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray

If it’s more of a wave that you have and want to avoid the mousse, go for Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. Spritz it into damp hair and it’ll give you texture and body without being too intense.

Remington T|Studio Ceramic Pearl Curling Wand

No matter how much you try to watch your hair while it dries and twist in any stray strands, it’ll always have a slight frizziness to it, especially on the top layer where it’s most exposed to the elements and movement. The Remington wand is great for naturally curly hair as it adds curls without looking too ‘done’ and you can vary the tightness of the spiral by using different ends of the barrel.
