Our favourite products to transition your skincare to winter

Our favourite products to transition your skincare to winter

We always talk about our wardrobes when it comes to the change in the seasons, but how do we switch up our skincare stash as we move into winter? Much like how we dress at this time of year, in layers of soft cosy fabrics, we can apply this to our skincare too. Layer up on rich, hydrating products to keep your skin in good nick whatever the season brings.

Cleansing

If you’ve been using something lighter such as a cream or milk cleanser for summer consider switching to an oil or balm. They are more heavy duty and leave the skin feeling clean but not stripped. Best removed gently with a hot flannel to remove makeup and any dead skin. Our favourites are Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm and Emma Hardie’s Natural Moringa Cleansing Balm.

Moisturisers

In summer, with the temperatures warmer (some of the time), our skin tends to produce more oil throughout the day. This is why we reach for the lighter, whipped or even gel textures in our moisturisers, sometimes in the AM skipping this step entirely and using just SPF. As the nights get cooler you’ll find you need something a bit more decadent, try something  luxurious like Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream  or Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream.

Serums

Plump up parched skin with hyaluronic acid, this is the best ingredient to retain moisture in the skin, as well as being an anti-inflammatory. Pestle and Mortar’s Pure Hyaluronic Serum is fantastic, or for a more budget-friendly version try The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2%. \

Another key skincare ingredient is Vitamin C, this can be used year round but is particularly great at adding the glow back into your skin during these months of Netflix induced hibernation. One we love is Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Serum and the brand is now stocked in Arnotts!

Treatments

There was never a better time to start using an acid toner than now, months spent inside with the heating on can thoroughly dry out our skin leaving it tight and lackluster. Adding these into your routine will help slough away dead skin and any flaky patches. Start with something gentle like cult classic, Pixi Glow Tonic, or if you’re looking for something stronger try Alpha-H Liquid Gold.
