Emma Stone’s New Bob is #AW14

Emma Stone’s New Bob is #AW14

We’re all flappers now…

Emma Stone is the sensible girl’s beauty icon. She works that natural skin tone – grape seed oil apparently – and whether blonde or red, she knows good tresses. However up until now she’s kept the cut girl-next-door and has been the mid-length ambassador ever since she charmed audiences in modest hits such as Easy A and Crazy Stupid Love. Now everything changes.

This week, while nabbing the unofficial Best Dressed Award at the Venice Film Festival for that inky Valentino gown, Stone debuted her new crop and thus the bob became the cut of the season. Book the hair appointment pronto, be brave and cut out those ombr? layers. Emma Stone said so.

The silent film star Louise Brooks

We’re big bob lovers in Image.ie and the history of this daring style is pretty interesting. The bob dates to 1915 when style influencer du jour and famed ballroom dancer Irene Castle lobbed off her locks because getting things done is so much easier when without being Rapunzel at breakfast. This was the era of the flapper. Think 1920s silent film star Louise Brooks. Think the first decade where women truly gunned for financial independence. Ignore the impending economic collapse.

Emma Stone’s latest movie, hence the Venice hobnobbing, is Magic in the Moonlight and takes place in the 1920s where she plays a suspected charlatan medium that Colin Firth sets out to debunk – perhaps the actress decided it was time her hair imitated art?

What about you Image.ie readers – inspired to go for a bob?

Magic in the Moonlight hits Irish cinemas next month.
