Social Pictures: Special preview screening of Lakelands

Earlier this week, many familiar faces took to the red carpet for a special screening of the new Irish film, Lakelands, which is now open in Irish cinemas.

The movie’s stars, film buffs, and plenty of other familiar faces stepped out this week for the Irish premiere of Lakelands ahead of its Irish release on Friday 5 May.

The preview screening took place in Dublin’s Light House Cinema, and saw the film’s leads Danielle Galligan (Kin) and Éanna Hardwicke (Normal People, Smother) take to the red carpet alongside co-stars, family, friends, and industry insiders.

Directed by Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney, Lakelands is their debut feature, and has been nominated for several IFTAs including Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress at this weekend’s awards ceremony.

Set in the Irish midlands, the film is a football drama follows Cian, a young Gaelic footballer struggling to come to terms with a career-ending injury after an attack on a night out. He undertakes a search for his own identity in a small town where Gaelic football is a religion, and identity is defined by what you can do.

Co-starring Gary Lydon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), and Lorcan Cranitch (The Dig), Lakelands has already been very well received, and is well worth the watch.

Take a look at some social photos from the special preview screening…
