Bluebell assault

A 17 year old boy has been hospitalised with serious head injuries following an attack by “a group of males” on La Touche Road in Bluebell yesterday. Local Sinn Féin Cllr Daithí Doolan said the community was “frightened and traumatised” following the attack and encouraged people with information to come forward to gardaí.

Kyiv missiles

One person has been killed by a Russian missile strike on an industrial facility in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa. Elsewhere, falling debris during an air raid caused two fires in the eastern districts of Kyiv. Debris also fell in the Dnipro region of Kyiv, but there were no casualties.

Ireland’s neutrality review

Today, Tánaiste Micheál Martin is expected to tell the Dáil that the “full spectrum” of options must be considered as part of a review of Ireland’s military neutrality, that the country can no longer rely on its geographic isolation for security nor “isolate” itself from world events. As minister for foreign affairs and defence, he will outline that he is convening a Consultative Forum on International Security Policy to build a deeper public and political understanding of the international security environment facing the State, and the policy options available.

TikTok banned in Montana

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte has signed a law banning TikTok in the state, setting up the first legal and logistical test for broader efforts to restrict access to the wildly popular video-sharing app in the US. Montana is the first US state to ban the platform.

Danny Masterson’s rape retrial

Jurors in former That ’70s Show star Danny Masterson’s rape retrial began deliberations on Wednesday. Late last year, a jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case against Masterson involving rape allegations by three women, and Los Angeles Judge Charlaine Olmedo declared a mistrial. Prosecutors said that Masterson drugged the women in order to assault them, then relied on his status as a prominent member in the Church of Scientology to avoid consequences for decades.
