22 Business of Beauty Award nominees on their proudest achievements so far

In the run up to the IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards on Sunday 18 September, we’re asking our lovely nominees about the proudest achievements in their jobs so far.

We’re getting closer and closer to the highly anticipated IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards 2022, and before we descend on the Clayton Hotel on September 18, we’re getting the lowdown from a selection of our nominees.

Today, we’re diving into the proudest achievements they’ve experienced through their work so far, and the answers show us exactly why they’re such worthy Business of Beauty nominees.

Hear from 22 of our 2022 BOB nominees below…

Aideen Kate, nominated for Best Beauty Influencer

Launching my very own make-up brand True Beauty by Aideen Kate. It’s been the biggest learning experience for me and I am really enjoying the process so far, every day is different and I could never have imagined before now the work that goes behind the scenes to grow a business!

Anna Muldowney, Peach Beauty and Skin, nominated for Best Therapist

Building a loyal clientele over the last 11 years and them trusting me on all things beauty!

Professor Caitriona Ryan, Institute of Dermatologists, nominated for Best Advanced Anaesthetician

It is, without a doubt, opening the Institute with Prof Ralph – I am so proud of what we have created, our amazing staff and the fantastic patients we have amassed over the past 3 years. The Institute of Dermatologists is the first centre of excellence of private medical and cosmetic Dermatology in Ireland and is fully equipped with a highly trained team of Consultant Dermatologists, Nurse Specialists and therapists, the most up-to-date technology, and most importantly, the extensive dermatological experience needed to achieve excellence in Dermatology.

Christine Lucignano, Make-up Artist, nominated for the Hall of Fame

I’m very proud of the work I did in the early days of the AIDS crisis. I worked with AMFAR and Elizabeth Taylor, that was pretty amazing times, in both a heart-breaking and yet fulfilling time. The time I spent in South Africa training make-up artist’s who happened to be Black, how to properly paint Black skin, that was really rewarding. Every time I see a magazine with my work in it, I get goosebumps and I feel proud.

Conor James Doyle, nominated for Best Beauty Influencer

During lockdown, I lost a lot of money, like us all. I worked as an educator within the hair industry and naturally, all events were abolished. Over lockdown, I got a ring light, my camera phone and set up a virtual live class for professionals to join all over the world. Over the space of 2 years I educated 3000+ students of all levels, in client-building strategy, colour techniques and creating confidence and passion within your job. To this day I still get messages from people sharing how their business and careers have grown thanks to the training and you can’t put a price on that. It’s something I’m very proud of.

Denise Phillips, Pelo Hairdressing, nominated for Hair Stylist of the Year

Some of my proudest achievements centre around creating opportunities for others, such as employing 32 permanent positions within our three successful salons and training numerous salons on wig and scalp care through the provision of scalp pair and wig fitting through sickness and alopecia.

Eavanna Breen, Akina Beauty & Laser Clinic, nominated for Best Therapist

I am most proud of my ability to source and bring new treatments and products to our clinic ahead of the curve. My most recent find while researching upcoming trends was the Skinmade personalised skincare system. This custom-built, personalised skincare is made after testing the skin for lipids and hydration, meaning that the question of what moisturiser you should use is taken out of the equation; this is the exact right dose for your skin, at that time. I have built a very successful relationship with the German brand and am now actively involved in their new products’ research and development process.

Grace Flood, Cherry On Top Nails, nominated for Best Nail Technician

I started with nothing other than grief, passion and stress. I managed to turn all of that into something beautiful and build a recognisable brand.

Grace Reed, Director, Kare Cosmetics Ltd, nominated for Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year

Having a happy team. That is our main goal happy team and happy customers.

Jennifer Rock, Founder, Skingredients, nominated for Beauty Influencer of the Year

There have been many proud moments! Seeing Skingredients on shelf in my local pharmacy was an unforgettable moment. Launching our refillable packaging, which was a goal from day one but only feasible last year, was another big step for the brand in our quest to become more sustainable too. As I have always said though, the true joy comes from hearing feedback from our growing Nerd Network community and Skingredients clients across the island. For me, true fulfilment comes from reading messages from clients thanking us for the noticeable differences in their skin after starting their journey with us. It also comes from working with a rockstar team through many a deadline, pulling together as one and having nerdie fun while doing so. It is hoomans first after all, as that is our key philosophy.

Joann Mahon, Owner and MD, Millies.ie, nominated for Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year

The accomplishment that I am so incredibly proud of is our success at growing and maintaining a very high level of customer loyalty to date. Year on year we have witnessed our customer loyalty and repeat customer rate increase which is such an amazing indicator that our customers trust Millies as a business to provide expert knowledge, amazing service and value. I definitely think the clinical skincare background of Millies has greatly contributed to this trust and loyalty.

John Bowes, Brown Sugar, South William Street, nominated for Best Makeup Artist

So far I’ve been lucky enough to work on numerous fashion shows, magazines and recognisable faces, and I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with Disney, but my proudest achievements is building up countless women and making them feel strong and sexy. After 2 years of fear and being stuck at home it gives me great satisfaction making women feel ready to take on the world.

Julio Sartori, The Salon at The Shelbourne, nominated for Most Creative Talent in Hair

My proudest accomplishment is becoming the first Creative Director of The Salon at The Shelbourne. It is a privilege and honour to be part of the team at this historic hotel which has welcomed so many guests through its doors for almost 200 years, including some of my favourite iconic Hollywood icons like Greta Garbo, Maureen O’Hara, Grace Kelly, Celine Dion and Charlize Theron, amongst many others.

Keilidh Cashell, nominated for Beauty Influencer of the Year

Creating tutorials or products that make people feel beautiful and confident, there’s no feeling like that! That’s the whole reason I do what I do.

Maura Healy, Alchemy LAB, Dublin, nominated for Best Brow Artist

I feel that opening and building a successful business in the pandemic has been a great accomplishment. Many businesses don’t survive their first year and I recently celebrated our second anniversary. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here and I’m very proud of where I am right now.

Olivia Fitzsimons, Olivia Fitzsimons Beauty, nominated for Best Lash Artist

How most of my clients have been coming to me on average for about 6 years. For people to trust in me and choose to spend their hard-earned money getting treatments with me is always very special and I never take that for granted.

Megan Byrne, Institute of Dermatologists, nominated for Best Facialist

Becoming a national trainer for a leading skincare brand that has allowed me to travel, train and meet amazing professionals in the skincare industry. Having the opportunity to learn from my peers has been invaluable.

Patrycja Slawinska, Nails & Makeup By Patrycja, Cork, nominated for Best Nail Technician

The thing I’m most proud of is being recognised by my wonderful customers and partners for the hard work I put in. I am also very proud of completing multiple courses during lockdown and becoming a qualified E.Mi Ireland Instructor.

Sarah Wade, Suede Lash Studio, nominated for Best Lash Artist

Surviving being closed down 3 times was probably the toughest hurdle we have fast since opening 5 years ago. I’m proud to have built a business that people wanted to come back to and grateful that we were able to reopen as I know a lot of other businesses were not as fortunate.

Suzanne Hourigan, The Brow Boss, nominated for Best Brow Artist

I am most proud of the studio I have created, a safe place for every age and gender to feel welcome with an amazing team that I have trained to a high standard of service and customer care. Creating a space for myself in the industry. My clients feedback means more to me than anything and to know they get from our studio exactly what I wanted to create means the absolute world.

The Chill Spa at the Ice House Hotel, nominated for Best Spa

New spa renovations and the recent awards we have won since the pandemic.

Yourells Hair Salon, Galway, nominated for Best Hair Salon

Seeing our trainees start their journey with us and progress and grow into amazing stylists. Our 4 managers have all started from the beginning of their careers with us. It’s so lovely to see how much they are achieving for themselves and our salon. Watching people grow both professionally and personally is hugely rewarding.
