The Rock Donated Money To Save A Puppy With His Namesake

Celebrities may live in a world far removed from our own, but that doesn’t stop many of them from using their public status (and sizeable income) to do some good. For example, we’re used to Dwayne Johnson AKA ?The Rock,? going above and beyond for his love of animals in particular. Remember that time he saved a drowning puppy and decided to make the distressed dog a permanent member of his family? And when his furry friend took a turn for the worst, he used the upsetting situation to raise awareness and encouraged all pet owners to keep an extra watchful eye on their animals.

Once again proving that underneath that tough, wrestler exterior lies?a big softie, Johnson won the internet over when he announced his intention to donate over a thousand dollars to save a puppy with his namesake.

Actress Michelle Trachtenberg brought the pup to Johnson’s attention on Monday, tweeting a link to the Furious 7 star about the 4-month-old puppy that was abandoned at a shelter with heavy wire wrapped around his mouth. While the wire was successfully removed, after the dog was stitched up it was discovered that he suffers from a severe heart murmur, which requires surgery to treat.

?This puppy named after @TheRock was tortured, abandoned!,? Trachtenberg wrote on Twitter. ?He needs our help for life-saving surgery.?

Saving SPOT shelter in Los Angeles, who is currently caring for the pup, said they named him after the action star because ?he is going to need to be a great fighter to win this battle.? And being the generous guy that he is, The Rock wanted to help out his furry namesake. ?This is rough to read about,? he replied to Trachtenberg’s tweet on Tuesday. ?Poor lil’ pup abandoned w/ a wire wrapped around his mouth. I’ll help. Stay strong pup.?

Staying true to his word, he then donated the $1500 to the shelter, on the dog’s special GoFundMe page to help meet the $5,000 goal. The shelter then thanked the action star for helping them reach their fundraising goal.

?Knowing that ?The Rock? has got Dwayne the puppy’s back, we are confident he will be a fighter and make it through this,? they wrote. ?Thank you all for your generous donations- thanks to you we have met our goal.?

The pup will get his life-saving surgery, and we will love The Rock forevermore.
