VENUE: The Millhouse, Co. Meath

THE HAPPY COUPLE They are?Michelle Leonard, beauty clinic?owner and Thomas Leonard, engineer. They live in Clontarf, Dublin and they met as teens in their hometown. Thomas invited Michelle to his Debs… Aww!

PicMonkey Collage5“April showers” turned out to be redundant adage on the day that Michelle and Thomas got hitched. Eschewing a formal marquee for a garden party, after a gorgeous ceremony in an old mill was just one decision they took to create a bespoke experience for their guests. The whole house was given over to the wedding party for two nights, creating a relaxed atmosphere and time to achieve everything.

Assisted by a gung-ho team of professionals and friends, the couple made sure the venue was pure perfection for both the ceremony and the reception. Exposed brickwork, weathered wood, burlap, candles, fairy lights and a neutral colour palette set the scene. Little Sebastion (the couple’s son) had a starring role in the humanist ceremony – something very important for his mum and dad.

Working with a venue’s character is key – hurrah for the beauty of exposed brickwork and crumbling plaster walls!

THEIR SUPER SUPPLIERS… The staff at The Millhouse were friendly and accommodating. If you’re not willing to cut corners on your wedding day, neither should your venue’s staff.

THEIR BEST MOMENTS… Humanist celebrant Brian Whiteside’s words. The couple worked closely with their celebrant in advance of their wedding to ensure that their love and values were communicated accurately.
