Outfits that work both in and out of the office

Struggling to make your office wardrobe work outside the office and vice versa? Here are five outfits that will take you from meetings to margaritas with ease.

A trench, a waistcoat and a pair of loafers

If you’re looking for the perfect transitional ‘fit, this is it. The end of summer is nigh but it’s not quite autumn yet either, so – as is usually the case when dressing for Irish weather – layers are essential. Wearing a coat when it’s humid out inevitably means you arrive at work drenched in sweat; a waistcoat and trench coat combo is a good compromise. Get your loafers out of hibernation et voilà, you’re good to go.

A suit and runners

If wearing a suit to the office sounds too formal for you, a pair of coloured denim trousers worn with a blazer of the same colour is a great way to emulate the look in a more toned-down way. Throw on some trainers and you’ve got yourself a polished yet still drinks-appropriate outfit.

Jeans and a striped knit

Retire the ripped, skinny jeans of your youth and replace them with a pair of high-waist, wide-leg denim trousers instead – they’re far sleeker and look much more grown up (in a good way!) A striped shirt is an absolute wardrobe necessity too, so if you don’t have one, it’s definitely worth investing in – I guarantee you’ll wear it with pretty much everything you own. Red lipstick and a leather jacket are all you need to hit the town once the last email is sent.

A colourful co-ord

Somewhere along the way, we were conditioned to believe that officewear is synonymous with stuffy and boring. No longer! Olympia’s bubblegum pink co-ord exudes joy – I can only imagine that wearing sunshine will make your workday all the more enjoyable too.

A poplin shirt, a midi skirt and pointed shoes

Another foolproof formula, you really can’t go wrong with a poplin shirt, a midi skirt and some pointed shoes. Dressy and professional all in one, the key to making this outfit work on the weekends is to play with texture and silhouette. For example, a leather look wrap skirt dances the line between work and play and can suit both depending on makeup, accessories etc.
