Internationally renowned make-up artist Lisa Eldridge shares her beauty must-haves, from travel necessities to unmissable treatments.
Three products I always have in my make-up bag are my Gloss Embrace Lip Gloss, €22 (it doubles up as a conditioning lip mask), my Seamless Skin Foundation, €53, (which I apply with a small brush for targeted concealing on the go) and a great mascara, my favourite is Lancôme Lash Idôle Mascara, €29.
My one desert island essential is (if it was a desert island), I’d have to say SPF50! I wear it every day, whatever the weather. One of my favourites is Ultra Violette Queen Screen Lightweight Skinscreen SPF50+, €40, it has a lightweight, serum-like formula and smells divine!
The worst beauty mistake I ever made was when I (perhaps stupidly) decided to have an acid peel on my back a month before my wedding, it was a disaster… and I was wearing a backless gown! The only thing that saved the day was body make-up. Never again!
I always cleanse my face when I wake up in the morning. Although I’m not wearing make-up, I still like the feeling of doing a facial massage so I use either a cleansing balm or a non-foaming, rinse-off formula.
My daily vitamins include vitamin C, vitamin D3, K2, B12 and I also take minerals, mainly magnesium.
My lifelong lipstick love is red. It’s beauty’s most enduring shade and makes me feel emboldened.
The foundation I always use or always return to is my Seamless Skin Foundation, €53! It’s my constant complexion companion.
Everyone should try my Make-up Tips for Happy Lips video. I’ve had so many people contact me to tell me it’s changed the way they apply their lipstick.
The last thing I apply before I go to bed is a nourishing lash serum. I keep it on my nightstand so I don’t forget to apply it each night.
The best beauty advice I ever received was to massage your face while you’re cleansing — something I learned from my Mum. In fact, she used to sit, watching the television, and still be massaging her face for ages. And she looks amazing now, so it obviously worked.
The first perfume I loved was Lanvin Arpège,100ml, €91, as it was what my mother wore when I was growing up. I always thought it was such an intriguing and sophisticated scent. I haven’t smelt it for years but I’m sure it would trigger significant olfactory memories.
I have a lot of fragrances that I really enjoy so I tend to mix them up and rotate them. Although I was working with Emma Watson a while ago and she gave me a sneak peek at the new Prada fragrance, Paradoxe, 90ml, €131.50 – I think it might be my new favourite.
I never travel without a silk eye mask and earplugs, as I have a fear of noisy, bright hotels!
I take my make-up off with Bioderma, a tried and trusted favourite for lip and eye removal. Recently I’ve been also enjoying the Argentum Apothecary La Lune De Velours Oil-Milk Cleanser, €112, to remove face make-up and SPF. Its formula also makes it great for a nice, long facial massage.
My all-time favourite eye cream is Pestle and Mortar Recover Eye Cream, €38.
My three hair favourites are the Virtue Manta Hairbrush, €26, Living Proof Restore Repair Mask, €38 and Hairstory New Wash, €51.
My go-to nail varnish shade is Rose Milk by Kure Bazaar, €16.50.
My all-time favourite brow product is KIMIKO Super Fine Eyebrow Pencil, €30.
To me, being healthy means allowing myself the time and space to think and be creative. Whenever I get overly busy I always get sick, so I have to keep an eye on that.
Something I try to do for myself every day is roll out my upper back. I pack my foam roller even when I go on jobs. If I miss a day on this I really feel it.
I would really like to try learning how to meditate effectively when I’m on my own. My mind’s always racing so I find it difficult to switch off.
I know it’s been a good day if I manage to do everything on my to-do list!
After a long work week, I de-stress by a hot, magnesium-flake-filled bath.
My all-time favourite body lotion is La Roche-Posay Lipikar Lipid Replenishing Body Milk, €22.
I’ve always wanted to change up my hair! I fantasise about making a dramatic hair colour change often, perhaps a strawberry blond or a pre-Raphaelite, coppery/orangey red.
My main treatment, although not strictly beauty, that I never miss is a massage. I’ve been a make-up artist for so many years that my shoulders and back are certainly paying the price now (MUAs will know!) so this is the most essential treatment on my appointment list.
My all-time favourite lip liner is my Enhance and Define Lip Pencils, €23.
The first beauty product I ever bought was a Clinique foundation. As someone who suffered from acne at a young age, it was life-changing!
I recently read Madame: An Intimate Biography of Helena Rubinstein by Patrick O’Higgins which I loved. I saw the play in London years ago with Miriam Margoyles as Helena and loved it, so I’d been meaning to read the book for some time.
The most treasured piece in my wardrobe is a yellow Christian Dior coat from 1954 – the cut and condition are still absolutely beautiful.
I wish I’d bought a dress I borrowed from Prada from an early 2000s collection. It was covered in yellow anemones and I absolutely loved it. I should’ve bought it as I still think about it!
I’m not a mountain person in winter, but I absolutely love spending summer in The Dolomites. Being able to hike amongst the wildflowers makes it one of my favourite places in the world.
In my handbag, you’ll always find concealer.
