That said, I know achieving that bouncy, salon-fresh look at home can feel tricky, but with the right tools and a little know-how, it’s absolutely doable.
And so here are my top tips for creating the best blowout from the comfort of your own home.
The tools
In the fast-paced world of hairstyling, where trends come and go and the market is flooded with endless tools, I’m always on the lookout for something that combines versatility, ease of use and most importantly, delivers beautiful results. Prep
The foundation of any great blowdry starts with proper preparation. While some shy away from using too many products, the right ones are essential for achieving a long-lasting, flawless finish. For shampoo, I swear by Redken’s Volume Injection range. These lightweight yet effective formulas cleanse and moisturise without weighing the hair down, creating the perfect base for styling.
Before applying any heat, protect your hair with Color Wow Dream Cocktail Kale – it helps prevent breakage and strengthens strands. Then, boost volume with Color Wow Xtra Large Volume Mousse. To finish, smooth out any frizz and add a glossy, sleek finish with Color Wow Dream Coat.
Top tip: after each layer of product, run a comb through your hair. This helps prevent product buildup and ensures everything is evenly distributed for the best possible result.
I like to start by rough-drying the hair with the hair blower attachment until it’s about 85% dry. Then, I section the hair and use the Fusion Brush attachment to smooth it out and add volume. To create that signature bouncy finish, I switch to the Auto-Wrap Curlers, alternating between the two to ensure the hair is styled away from the face.
For extra longevity and hold, I recommend pinning each section as you go during this step. Smaller sections will give you a tighter curl, while larger sections create a softer, more relaxed bounce. Leave the pins in until your hair has completely cooled. This helps set the style and gives you the best chance at a long-lasting blow-dry.
Finally, take down the pinned sections and either shake them out using your fingers for a softer look or use a wide-tooth comb for a more defined shape. I always like to finish with a serum or oil. My current go-to is Redken’s Acidic Bonding Concentrate 24/7 Night & Day Hair Serum. It adds shine, smoothness and a touch of luxury to the final look.
To lock everything in, finish with a hairspray or texture spray but this really depends on the finish you’re after. For a light hold, L’Oréal Elnett is a classic. If you want volume and grip with flexibility, Color Wow Style on Steroids texture spray is a great choice. And for serious staying power, you can’t go wrong with Schwarzkopf got2b. It’ll keep your blowdry in place all day (and night).
