Trend Watch: Clogs Are The New IT Shoe That Everyone Will Want

Trend Watch: Clogs Are The New IT Shoe That Everyone Will Want

You might want to rummage through your wardrobe for your circa-2001 clogs because you’re going to want them for AW17…

Admittedly, when I think of fabulous footwear, clogs are the last thing on my mind. In fact, the only thing that I generally think less of is crocs – which send a fashion anxiety-induced shiver down my spine (I’m not alone, right?). But thanks to fashion’s elite like Kate Moss, and Alexa Chung, a clog resurrection is imminent according to Vogue and Refinery29. And you know what? I’m fine with this – and you should be, too. Because if it means that comfort is taking front and centre over style, then sign me up baby.

I know what you’re thinking: how on earth can I make a heel-less, wooden shoe into a functional part of my wardrobe? Revert to exhibit A above: Kate (she likes when I call her Kate) – also known as the queen of classic – effortlessly incorporates clogs into her everyday wardrobe by pairing the look with a classic pair of ankle-length pinstripe jeans, a black t-shirt, and black accessories. Teaming Avant-garde fashion pieces like clogs with fundamental wardrobe staples like basic jeans is an inexpensive way to experiment and try out trends.

The shoe, originally worn for cultural dance and carrying out outdoor work like farming or mining, has been given a modern update by designers like Alessandro Michele of Gucci and Karl Lagerfeld of Fendi through blending the clog’s original form with modern embellishments and a plethora of fabrics and colours (although traditional colours like browns and reds are still favoured). And what with 70s style making a flamboyant reappearance in the very near future, the addition of a clog will perfectly complete a wide-leg and turtle-neck combo. Still not convinced? Shop our edit below. You’ll be clip-clop-clogging (say THAT ten times) in no time.
