Runway to Real Life: An Isabel Marant disco look for less than €175

Runway to Real Life: An Isabel Marant disco look for less than €175

Women the world over have had a long-standing obsession with achieving that ‘French Girl’ look, and we have Isabel Marant to thank for that.

The celebrated designer has been peddling her wares since 1983, when the then-16-year-old started selling her hand-sewn clothes inspired by childhood trips to Asia, Africa, India and the Caribbean, as well as using her chic West-Indian stepmother as a muse for her designs. It wasn’t until 1994 that her eponymous label was launched, irrevocably shaking up the idea of French fashion (known to be more classic and demure) with her trendy, effortless, insouciant ( and not to mention innately cool) clothing and accessories.

Fast forward to 2019, her brand is still going strong and her bi-annual show is one of the highlights of Paris Fashion Week. For SS19, she served up her typical cocktail of rock n’ roll boho, spiked with 1980s disco references. From white denim boiler suits to baggy acid-wash jeans and diamantés a-plenty, the far reaching influence of her collection is evident when you look at the high street’s current offering.

Ready for le discotheque? Of course you are. But let’s make a pit stop and get you runway ready first.
