H&M’s new kidswear collaboration is a love letter to the imagination – here are our top picks from the new collection

Kidswear should always be bright, sunny and fun.

Unlike us adults, they have yet to experience the dark palette of corporate and adult life and should bask in the glory of colour for as long as they can.

Luckily, H&M understands this and their new collaboration with Karolina Kijak is a love letter to the imagination, patterns and glowing pigments. Karolina Kijak-Dzikonska is a Polish illustrator and architect known for her watercolour illustrations of wildlife.

These illustrations come alive in this collection of clothes which will be available online and instore from today. Zebras, cheetahs, giraffes, flamingos and palm leaves dot the open plains of the clothes. While the underwater world is represented by vibrant fish, majestic sharks and starfish.

Key pieces

Key pieces in the collection are dresses, denim jackets, sweatshirts and hoodies in tie-dye and ombre in hues of olive green, ocean blue, coral pink, light grey and yellow.

Karolina says of the collection: “I have the wonderful opportunity to show children beautiful animals in the wild and in the ocean, which is especially important because I want them to be inquisitive and feel inspired about the world they live in. It makes me happy bringing these creatures closer to the children on their own clothes and I’m very curious to find out what their reactions will be like.”

While Sofia Lofstedt, Head of Kidswear Design at H&M believes the collection will help children discover adventure saying, “We were immediately drawn to Karolina’s watercolour illustrations for the way the colours come alive and create a sense of character in the animals. For our collaboration, we wanted to unite the worlds of both land and sea in a playful way. Our hope is that kids – and their parents – will find the adventure in this happy spring collection.”
