How To Get White Right

How To Get White Right

Although?a palette-cleansing, back-to-basics aesthetic, head-to-toe?white?is, nonetheless, probably?the one look of the new season with the most rules. So, how do you get white right? The trick to looking pale and interesting, rather than bland and boring, is to mix tones and textures and opt for a streamlined or sporty silhouette – both feel modern and grown-up and have no Holy Communion or bridal associations. Look to labels such as Victoria Beckham, Viktor & Rolf and Joseph for inspiration. There’s nothing saccharine about these clean-cut’shapes and sharp detailing.?Layering tones of cream and sugar, biscuit and vanilla will add interest and definition to your outfit, as will a mix of textures – butter-soft leather with cashmere, velvety silk with earthy linens. Then throw in a couple of spring’s favourite micro-trends (cold-shoulder detailing, asymmetric hems, fringing etc) and you’ll be white on for spring.

Joseph SS16: layers in subtly different tones of white make this outfit stand out.

The high street is awash with crisp, fresh whites. Here are a few favourites that will help you navigate the head-to-toe white look without ending up looking like a washout. And remember, when wearing white opt for nude underwear, not white (despite the ASOS model below saying otherwise!).
