Fashion Designers’ Pen Letters To Thank Michelle Obama

Today?- T-day – is full of emotion. There’s a sense of disillusionment among many as we face an uncertain future, but equally important is to commend the current leaders for their last eight years. Not just for their efforts to inspire through the changing of laws and mandates and emotive words, but through the arts and fashion communities as well. And today, the fashion community, in particular, are mourning the loss of Michelle Obama who, since?her arrival in the White House, has championed new, diverse designers and brought a vibrant elegance to the fore with her choice of outfits as First Lady.

With her gone, it remains to be seen how the fashion community will be represented – since so many have publically said they will refuse to dress Melania Trump – but many designers have taken today to pay tribute to Obama by writing her letters to mark the end of an era. Below is a selection of them from WWD:

Dear Michelle,

Thank you for your amazing support for not only me, but for every creative who dreams in this country. You inspire me and I am so proud to play a small part in your most extraordinary legacy.

I can proudly say that I’ve reached my American Dream.

Dear Michelle,

Over the past eight years, you have conveyed such strength, confidence and poise as First Lady. The selfless and exemplary work that you have done and the influence you are leaving behind will certainly not be forgotten! As designers, it has been such an honour for you to wear Marchesa. From State Dinners to Galas, you have exuded the highest level of elegance and grace, which we deeply admire.

Thank you for everything you have done, you are leaving behind a lasting legacy and we’re excited to see what comes next for you!

Best wishes,
Georgina Chapman & Keren Craig
