Why We’re Excited About Mariah Carey’s MAC Collaboration

Why We’re Excited About Mariah Carey’s MAC Collaboration

Of all the beauty-celebrity collaborations to come and go, we’re most excited about this one. Why? Because Mariah Carey, that’s why. She was the pop princess of the 1990s, her voice so powerful we could never emulate it, no matter how many times we tried to in the shower. She was influential long before Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears or Taylor Swift. We wanted her clothes; we wanted to be her best friend, and we wanted her to sing us to sleep. At the prime of her ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ success, she was rocking the kind of 90s beauty routine that we’re now returning to in a big way. Now, at 45 years of age, she’s still got a powerful set of lungs, she’s looking as beautiful as ever and she’s holding strong as one of the most successful and definitive divas ever to grace a stage. With a bright and boisterous personality, a collaboration with the likes of MAC, for which they channel her iconic 90s look, is a match made in make-up heaven.

In celebration of her greatest hit, the lipstick has been aptly named ‘All I Want’, and boy, do we want it. Described by Mariah herself as a ‘beautiful, champagne shimmer’, this make-up bag must will take you right back, black choker and all.

In conversation with PopSugar, MAC’s creative director James Gager says of Mariah: ?[she’s] the over-the-top pop and beauty icon. Throughout the years, we’ve all watched her with admiration and feel right now she is at her ultimate best. She exudes elegance, glamour, sophistication, and a sense of fun. Her ?All I Want? lipstick is the perfect frosty holiday shade and her Beauty Icon Collection will be everything you think of when you think MAC and Mariah.?

In an exclusive interview, Mariah shares her enthusiasm ahead of the upcoming release and why she made the decision to step away from red, which we would traditionally associate with that time of year. “Well, I’ve always loved the frosty lip for Winter because I think it blends in with the tone of the season. Even growing up, [the shade is] something that I would gravitate towards. I don’t look good in a red lip, and I wanted to be able to wear the color. I know a lot of people who don’t care for red lipstick, either. We ended up going with this really beautiful champagne shimmer.”

Now, we know it’s not even Halloween yet but it’s simply impossible to utter the words ‘All I Want For Christmas…’ without singing along as Mariah frolicks through in the snow.
