Made by skilled artisans in Co Wexford, they combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Choosing the right rug is so important when it comes to setting the tone of a space. Often sitting centrally in a room, creating a natural focal point, they add texture, colour, pattern, and warmth. With the right design, they can act as a piece of artwork. A rug shouldn’t be an afterthought – in fact, choosing a rug you really love and then complementing it with other details is a great way to create a space that feels considered and cohesive.
Sustainability at every step
One of Ireland’s leading luxury rug makers, Ceadogán Rugmakers has over four decades of experience creating handcrafted rugs and textile artworks. A family business, it was founded in 1981 and was passed to its current stewards, Colm Kenny and Martina Navrátilová.
Their workshops and studio in Co Wexford are situated on the family homestead, a stone-walled farmyard that dates back to the 17th century. This is where their designs come to life, from ideation to tufting, carving and finishing.
Each piece is made from natural fibres such as silk and alpaca wool. They have even created an alpaca farm on their land, providing them with an ultra-local source of material.
Distinctive design
As well as designing their own rugs, wall hangings, headboards and cushions, Ceadogán collaborates with artists and designers to create pieces that go beyond your average rug. As each piece is made to order, they can also customise pieces to your preference in size, colour, texture and design. This is one of the many reasons why they are a favourite of interior designers, architects and hospitality groups, making bespoke pieces to fit a space exactly.
Each piece combines contemporary, directional design with a nod to Ireland’s rich cultural and geographical heritage. This can show up in so many ways, from a motif inspired by Ogham inscriptions to a colour palette reminiscent of the landscape. Get in touch with the team to create your own perfect rug.
