The IMAGE Spa Guide: Part One

Finding that elusive slice of time to truly zone out and reboot becomes more and more difficult, so when you do, it must be extra special. The IMAGE team share their favourite Irish spas for a little bit of heaven on Earth.

The Spa and Fitness Centre at Ashford Castle

THE LOWDOWN

As befitting a five-star property, and as the recent recipient of Ireland’s Best Hotel Spa at the 2016 World Spa Awards, everything here is seriously luxe. The three seashell chandeliers are a beautiful touch.

FACILITIES

Included are five treatment rooms, a hammam, steam room and a terrace area with views over Lough Corrib. Every single detail has been thought through, from the hand-carved treatment beds to the addition of hair tiebacks (a first!) in the ladies? changing room.

BRANDS USED

Choose from B|Africa, which uses native African plant extracts, Elemis and Voya. The spa also boasts the PureFlow passive cardio system, which improves circulation and increases oxygenation, using counter-pulsation technology. For the ultimate exfoliation, try the
Ashford Soapy Massage Cleanse, which takes place in the hamman and utilises an olive soap and Turkish mitt, resulting in glowing skin.

USP

Ashford Castle is a truly unique spot, so of course the spa follows suit; it’s the ideal addition to the stay of a lifetime. Even the wholesome healthy treats in the relaxation suite are of gourmet quality. Absolutely one for the bucket list, and factor in plenty of time to enjoy it to the max.

FACILITIES

It’s all about the relaxation and the rejuvenation here, with highly trained therapists. If you’re feeling off-kilter, the five-day detox programme gives results in terms of weight loss, toning and increased energy levels. And the calorie-controlled diet is no hardship, being rather delicious. Equally, the great food, buzzy bar and unique atmosphere make Monart excellent for celebrations and group gatherings.

BRANDS USED

Natural skincare brand Pevonia Botanica, and Voya.

USP

This being Ireland’s only true destination spa, the surroundings and gardens created by Mary Reynolds are as gorgeous and inviting as the heavenly bedrooms and treatments. For a special treat, book a suite in one of the original house rooms.
